By now, you all know that I love a good children's book. Well, I just received a copy of a brand new one. It's called "My Far Away Grandma," written by Deborah Riemer and illustrated by Susan Sargent. This book is full of bright, whimsical illustrations and was designed to read aloud to children.
This book just happened to arrive while two of my grandchildren were visiting. I read it to them - in person with one on each side of me - PURE HEAVEN! If you read my blog often, you know that all my grandkids live thousands of miles away, so I'm definitely a "far away grandma" and the title of the book instantly touched a tender spot in my heart.
In the book, it mentions the words "scuba" and "tuba." And these curious kids wanted to know what "scuba" and "tuba" were. While I was reading, my husband went to find a photo of him scuba diving in Hawaii. After I finished reading the book, he showed our little ones what scuba meant. They were fascinated.
A couple of weeks ago, the author of this book, Deborah Riemer, contacted me to tell me about her new book. It definitely seemed like a book I would enjoy, so I purchased a copy for myself and Deborah sent me another one as a giveaway to my readers.
So, now you have a chance to win a free copy of this darling new book. Trust me, you and your children and grandchildren will love it. We sure did!

I am a long distance Grandmimi. My grandchildren live in different states of the US and I live in Chile. I go there as much as I can, but still think is not enough. Two of my daughters are married to military , so, they are constantly moving, which makes the trips hard for me. One of the families are going to be deployed to Hawaii next May and I am trying to look for ideas to let them feel closer. I wish I could win this book. Thank you for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI just saw this perfect book and am past the deadline for the free book contest but is it available for purchase still? I have 5 grandkids in Nevada and 1 in Nebraska and I’m known as “the gramma in the iPad”...breaks my heart and makes me envious of the other grandparents that are available to them any time any day. My husband retired in February when we “thought” our house sold, only to find out at the last minute it fell through. We were/are uprooting our life in Tennessee to move cross country to Arizona so we can be an hour or so away from the majority of them. I also make memory books from Little Golden Books as well as other particular children’s books that would hold a special meaning, and I believe this book would make a wonderful memory book for all the “Far Away Grandmas”...so that’s why I’m looking to get one or two, Thanks so much.

I have been a far-away g-ma for 13 1/2 years. I am currently working on keeping in touch by writing a letter to my 2 grandsons each month. They are BIG book lovers and I would LOVE to send them this book to remind them of our long distance connection. Hugs, bugs, and love - g-ma P.
